Ghalegaun is a Gurung village in the North-East of Pokhara city in Lamjung district. It is the famous tourist destination which is 2100 meters above the sea level. The village is approximately 108 km North-West of the Kathmandu district. It is the hometown for the majority of famed Gurungs, the legendary mid hill people of Western Nepal. This place is a true mixture of natural beauty and ethnical, cultural and religious beauty of the Gurung people. The Ghalegaun is the beautiful village surrounded by the Annapurna Mountain Range. It represents the belongingness and togetherness in the beauty of the nature.

The village is rich in culture and they have their special dances like ghatu, krishnacharitra, sorathi and jhyurenach. Visitors can also experience the traditional musical instruments and traditional Gurung dresses. We can also bless ourselves with the Tamu art and culture displaying in the village musuem. The main attraction of the village is Ghumaune Ghar (Oval House) which is the example of Tamu house. The breathtaking panoramic view of Mt. Manaslu, Mt. Annapurna 2 and 4, Lamjung, Machhapuchhre and Himalchuli peak can be observed from the view tower in the Gorkha Army Park.
The main pilgrimage site of this village is Jaldevi Tij Uttarkanya Temple which attracts the devotees throughout the year. The best cuisine to enjoy at the Ghalegaun consist of Kodoko Sel Roti (Deep fried sweet millet dough), Kodoko Dhido( Porridge made from millet flour), Local Chicken Curry and Nepali Thakali set. The villagers of this place have mastered the art of making household items from locally available fabrics. They use sheep wool to make hand knitted woollen mats, blankets and bakkhu (Woollen outerwear). Also they sell this item as the souvenirs to visitors. They also make bag and pouch from Himalayan nettle. Doko thunse (Bamboo basket), Namlo, Ghum (Umbrella) and Bhakari (Basket use to store food grains) are the other items they make by themselves.
This amazing place of Nepal rich in both natural and cultural beauty is most for the one time life experience. We can get the ticket of the Besi Shar from the bus ticket counter and from Besi Shar we can hire the private Scorpio to Ghalegaun.
