Thamserku Expedition

Thamserku Expedition is the amazing and beautiful journey in the beautiful and stunning land of the Everest Region. The travellers can experience the thrilling moment of climbing Mt Thamserku with the panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan ranges.  Thamserku Expedition is a mountain in the Himalayas of eastern Nepal. The mountain is connected by a ridge leading eastward to Kangtega. Thamserku is a prominent mountain to the east of the Namche Bazaar and lies just north of Kusum Kangguru. The first ascend was made in the year 1954 AD from the south by members of Edmund Hillary’s Schoolhouse Expedition team. The team described the climb as difficult and the route has not been repeated in its entirety by anyone else. In 2014, Russian climbers Alexander Gukov and Alexey Lonchinskiy made the first ascent on the southwest face.

Thamserku Expedition is rated as difficult and Technical Mountain for climbing but most people like to explore it to face the challenge of nature. The Snow Saddle – is another beautiful mountain which rises majestically to a saddle shaped summit from Khumbu and Hinku valley and sits next to another prominent mountain Kangtega to the south. Thamserku’s best view is from above Phortse, but most impressive from Minmo Valley is nearly never entered by trekkers or climbers. Another Gokyo Cho la pass trekking is one of the popular and challenging trekking trails in Everest region and one of Nepal’s most famous treks to the Khumbu Mountains & Sherpa country. Thamserku Expedition is considered one of the best destinations for trekking and mountaineering in the world. It is probably the only country in the world which attracts thousands of trekkers and mountaineers every year to explore the natural hidden treasures.         

Wedged between India and Tibet (China), this small, mountainous country offers an incredible variety of ecosystems, the world’s 8 highest mountain ranges including. Mt. Everest, thick tropical forests teeming with flora and fauna, thundering rivers, ice-blue lakes, forested hills, arid deserts and frozen valley . It is a nerve shaking experience with the outstanding views of mountains, glaciers and glacier lakes . The trekkers can experience the isolated communities in the mountainous region with the wild scenery of the mountains on its own undisturbed habitat. 

Day 1 Fly to Lukla and Trek to Phakding

The trekking will start with the flight from Kathmandu to Lukla airport. Lukla airport offers you with lifetime experience as it is one of the dangerous airports in the world. The runway of the airport lies between the two hills which is the difficult runaway for the experienced pilot also. Its airfield is at high elevation and the difference between the two ends of the runway is about 60 metres. From here trekkers will begin their trek to the Phakding with green landscape and view of Kusum Kangaru. The trekkers will stay at the guesthouse here and enjoy the evening and night time with the local cuisine and dinner.

Day 2 Phakding to Namche Bazaar

From Phakding trekkers have to cross the river to reach the valley. The trail is near to the river valley with beautiful blue pine and rhododendron forest. After crossing the Dudh Koshi at Benkar , trekkers can get the sight of snow capped peaks of Kusum Kangaru and Thamserku. It is only the short walk to Monjo where trekkers gather around to have lunch. From Monjo , National Park is about a short distance. In the hours of daylight the walking is a little problematic and is an uphill way to Namche bazaar. The trail now goes to the generally flat terrain, crossing back to the right bank to the meeting point of the Bhote Koshi and Dudh Koshi Rivers.  The trekkers have to walk through the large suspension bridge.

Day 3 Namche bazaar to Everest View Hotel

This is the day for acclimatization to the trekkers. The trekkers will hike to Syangboche Airport 3700 metres, the highest airport in the world. Then continue to climb to the Everest View Hotel for great panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Amadablam and Tawache. On the way back you can visit Sherpa culture museum and Everest Photo Gallery. You will spend our day at Namche Bazaar discovering the Sherpa culture and exploring the busy market streets. Namche Bazaar is an extensive market town where there is always something to see. It is worth making an uphill hike to Sagarmatha (Everest) National Park Museum and the combined villages of Khunde and Khumjung.

Day 4 Namche Bazaar to Thamserku Base Camp

After spending a good day acclimatizing and exploring around Namche Bazaar, you will follow the trail that passes through Khumjung. From Khumjung, your trek continues through a beautiful forest filled with rhododendron, pine and birch trees to reach Phunke Tenga. From there you will follow a smaller trail that ascends gradually as you head towards a good campsite at 4,960 meters. The Sherpa crew will set up the Base Camp and start making necessary preparations for further climbing.

Day 5 to 24 Climbing period of Thamserku Peak and trek back to Thamserku Base Camp

You will spend several days for acclimatization and climbing training practices. Fully acclimatized and properly equipped with all the climbing equipment you will follow the guidance and footsteps of  experienced Sherpa climbing experts. Several camps will be set up above the base camp before attempting the main summit of Mt Thamserku. Taking weather conditions into consideration, you will overcome several technical sections and head towards the summit. Your long-awaited climb to the summit is rewarded with magnificent views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Cho Oyu, Pumori, Ama Dablam and other surrounding peaks in the Khumbu region. After spending short quality time at the summit of Mt Thamserku, you will descend following the same route and head back to Base Camp. 

Day 25 Thamserku Base Camp to Namche Bazaar

After successfully achieving the target – the summit of Mt Thamserku, you can prepare yourselves for the return journey. Following the same trail back, you will retrace your steps and trek to reach back to Namche Bazaar. Feel free to roam around the inspiring town of Namche Bazaar. Also, there are plenty of Souvenir shops at Namche where you might find something interesting for your loved ones. 

Day 26 Namche Bazaar to Lukla

Today will be the last day of our trek. Leaving Namche Bazaar you will follow the trail that goes through Monjo to Lukla. You will descend passing through dense forest areas filled with rhododendron, oak and pine trees. The trek is a pleasant walk, except for a few short uphill climbs and then down to the Bhote Koshi River crossing it three times. You will make a final uphill climb of approximately about forty -five minutes to reach back to Lukla.

Day 27 Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu Valley

Fly from Lukla Airport to Kathmandu Airport and enjoy the panoramic views of snowy mountains from the window of the plane.
