Sundarijal is a small village to be one of the gateways to the Shivapuri National Park. It is located on the north-east side of Kathmandu which is about 17 kn away. The maximum elevation is up to 2340 m. This place is also popular for its beautiful water.
Sundarijal is one of the scenic hiking routes in Kathmandu that can be completed in a day. It’s popular among youngsters as a day route for picnic, hiking,swimming and cycling. One can have an eye-catching view of Kathmandu after an uphill hike.Also, we can see a small wonderful tamang village named Mulkharka. Throughout the hike, we will encounter many small waterfalls inside the green hill.
Sundarijal supplies the water for Kathmandu valley. And from this place we can hike to various places like Panauti after crossing Dhulikhel through Nagarkot. People hike to Chispani through this route and it’s the stop for the people coming down from Langtang – Gosaikunda trekking.
People visit this place for various purposes like hiking,cycling and it’s a pilgrimage for a huge number of Lord Shiva’s devotees. EVery year many devotees visit this place on the occasion of “Bol Bam” where they visit the waterfall flowing just beside the temple. They bath in the water falling above the hill and pray to Lord Shiva. As already mentioned, many people visit for picnics and regard this place as a spot for refreshment just near the city area.
-Sundarijal waterfall is also one of the spots for canyoning. People enjoy the place as they can swim also.
-People can hike to reach the Shivapuri National Park area which takes about 1 hour.
-There lies SUndarijal hydropower and water supply station. This place has several waterfalls and a dam in the middle of the jungle.
To reach Sundarijal, you can hire a cab or taxi. Also you can reach through the local bus from Ratnapark or Chabahil which then leads to the destination after a left turn from Jorpati.
