Rupina La Pass Circuit Trek

Rupina La Pass Circuit Trek is a challenging trekking trail in Nepal. It is a hidden area trekking of Nepalese Himalayas lies in the Manaslu region. This route was officially opened in 1991, but mountaineering expeditions have had long access to the area. It  takes you into the wilderness and hidden part of Manaslu region. This trek is geographically spectacular and culturally fascinating. It offers the views of Manaslu (8163m), peak 29 (7879m) Himal Chuli (7893m) and Boudha (6672m) are wonderful here. Manaslu (8163m) was attempted by Japanese Expeditions every year from 1952 until 1956 when the first ascent was made. Having become known as “Japanese Mountain” much of the information about the area was available in Japanese. The Japanese continued to dominate the climbing scene of Manaslu until 1971. A few trekkers, including peripatetic Hugh Swift, Managed to obtain the trekking permit for the region but otherwise this trek has always been the domain of the mountaineering expedition.

Rupina La Pass Circuit Trek

This trek is geographically spectacular and culturally fascinating circumnavigating Manaslu peak 29 (7871m) Himal Chuli (7893m) and Boudha (6672m). Much of this trek is in a region of strong Tibetan influence. Rupina La pass trek offers superb Himalayan scenery, Lush valleys, beautiful landscape, wild animals and birds. Trekkers can enjoy the Tibetan culture with Lamaism. The trek lies in the lower part of Manaslu region of Gorkha District at an elevation of 4,610 m. This Pass is a really interesting pass in the Lower Manaslu Trekking region. Rupina-la Pass trek is a challenging and difficult trekking pass of Lower Manaslu region of Nepal, where very few Trekkers are successful and have done this trekking even though it is very beautiful and interesting.  Rupina La pass trek is not so high pass but discovered as the most dangerous pass of Nepal as many trekkers lost their trail.  

Day 1 Drive from Kathmandu to Machha Khola

The journey starts with a beautiful ride to Machha Khola. Through this beautiful ride you can enjoy the amazing views of river valleys, landscapes, terraced farmlands, villages and forests. You will be passing through Arughat Bazaar in Gorkha District. The village of Arughat is in two parts, on opposite sides of the Budhi Gandaki; Arughat Bazaar is clean and prosperous with hotels and shops selling cloth, food and hardware. 

Day 2 Arughat to Soti Khola

From Arughat Bazar you will trek to Soti Khola. Along the way you will enjoy splendid views of Shringi Himal. You will trek through Gurung and Magar villages, past fields and cascading waterfalls, till we reach Soti Khola. You will set up camp on the banks of the Soti Khola.

Day 3 Soti Khola to Machha Khola

You will trek from Soti Khola to Machha Khola (Fish River). Machha Khola is a village situated above a stream with the same name.

Day 4 Machha Khola to Jagat

In the beginning you will again trek along a flat leveled path and then after trekking on an ascending and descending path you reach Jagat. In the route, you are exposed to Nepali culture as you walk through too few villages. 

Day 5 Jagat to Gomma

Leaving Jagat, you trek through a gently ascending path until Surtibas following villages and terraces and then the trail becomes a little bit difficult as you have to trek upward. While walking, you can relish the splendid views of mountains such as Ganesh Himal, Shringi Himal and green hills. 

Day 6 Gomma to Jarang

This day you walk through thick forests with chances to see wildlife such as bears, deer, leopards and many more local mountain birds. The trail is quite a gentle ascent and sometimes, while passing through this area you can see mountain views. 

Day 7 Jarang to Rupina la Phedi

The trail moves gently upward crossing Rupinala pass (4720m.) today, mountain views become closer to you as you can enjoy the magnificent views of Ganesh Himal, Boudha Himal and Shringi Himal.

Day 8 Rupinala Phedi to Bhedi Odar Via Rupina La Pass

 After trekking uphill until Rupinala passes you then trek a descending path to Bhedi Odar. From Rupinala Bhanjyang, you can enjoy the views of Boudha Himal, Manaslu Mountain, Himal Chuli, Ganesh Himal and Shringi Himal.

Day 9 Bhedi Odar to Bhedi Kharka 

The early part of the trail is sloppy and then to reach Bhedi Kharka you have to trek uphill passing through forests and green hills. Mountain views are available along the way; Bhedi Kharka is also a grazing field.  

Day 10 Bhedi Kharka to Dudh Pokhari

Passing through forests covered mainly by bamboo you have to trek uphill until you reach Dudh Pokhari, though sometimes you trek along an almost flat path. Dudh Pokhari is a pilgrimage site where many devotees gather at different periods throughout the year. Dudh Pokhari is the best view point of this trip as you can see panoramic views of Manaslu mountain, Ganesh Himal, Shringi Himal, Lamjung Himal, Annapurna range and many other unnamed mountains and peaks.

Day 11 Dudh Pokhari to Ninghalaghari

This day you trek a gradually descending path until you reach your destination, passing through forests covered with bamboo, rhododendron, pine and other plants and shrubs. Ninghalaghari is a campsite surrounded by forests covered mainly by bamboo and green hills. 

Day 12 Ninghalaghari to Chyadi Danda

After walking gently downhill for a few minutes you begin to trek uphill until you reach Chyadi Danda. En route you walk through forests and can enjoy mountain scenarios and villages at a far distance. Chyadi Danda is a ridge surrounded by forests and green hills. 

Day 13 Chyadi Danda to Tonje

To reach Tonje, you have to trek through sparse forests and the trail is quite up and down. Tonje is a small village mainly inhabited by the Gurung tribe. You will be heartily welcome by local people and can enjoy a cultural show. 

Day 14 Tonje to Duwar

You  will walk through villages and along the river bank. Duwar is a comparatively bigger village than Tonje and here too you will get to experience the traditional customs and behavior of local people. 

Day 15 Duwar to Besisahar

The trail today is quite easier as you trek along a flat leveled path passing terraces, villages, and suspension bridges and can enjoy mountain views, green hills and a flowing river at a far distance. On the same day, the drive from Besisahar to Kathmandu takes about 6 hours. It is a picturesque journey to get back to Kathmandu along the bank of Marshyangdi and Trishuli rivers with splendid views of green hills, mountains, farming terraces and villages on both sides of the road. 

Day 16 Drive from Besisahar to Kathmandu

The journey ends here with the ride from Besisahar to Kathmandu. En rooted you will see more of the countryside of Nepal that offers greenflies, rivers, villages, farms and beautiful mountain scenarios . However, the condition of the road is not equally fine in all portions.
