Pikey Peak Trek

Pikey Peak Trek is an amazing experience which takes place in the Khumbu region of Nepal. Indulge in the pristine scenery, culture and traditions. If you have a limited time and wish to enjoy the breathtaking Mt Everest up close, this trek fulfils all your wishes. The views of the Himalayas such as Everest, Makalu, Gauri Shanker, Lhotse, Mera Peak and many more is a memory to cherish. As much as the Himalayas entertain you, the biodiversity of this region is just as pristine. Throughout the trek we shall cross several lush forests adding up to the enjoyment of the journey. The Rhododendron forests, Orchids, Magnolia flowers and the blooming diversity are certain to keep you company throughout the trail.

Pikey Peak Trek

The spectacular views of Everest and Khumbu region’s landscapes are admiring to the eyes. The trail leading this trek is comparatively less crowded which allows experience of the Himalayas in the best way without any disturbance. As you trek along the beautiful villages you’ll learn about the significant Sherpa culture of this region. You’ll have the opportunity to interact with the villagers and learn about their traditions, norms and practices. There are beautiful monasteries and gompas representing a distinct Buddhist architecture which we shall explore. Pikey Peak Hill is best known for the glorious sunrise and sunset views over the Everest, Kanchenjunga and Dhaulagiri ranges. The glistening sun over the peaks is a pristine view which is bound to astound you. You’ll be captivated by the beautiful scenery. 

This moderate level trek is suitable for both beginners and experienced trekkers. If you want a less crowded and short trail to experience the Everest’s magnificence then do join the Pikey Peak Trek. This trek is incredible in the spring, fall and winter months. Each month serves its beautiful trekking experience. The blooming bio diversity in spring, the clear blue skies and comfortable weather in autumn and the snow capped Himalayas in winter.

Day 1 Drive from Kathmandu to Dhap and trek to Japre

You will start the day taking a long 8 to 9 hours drive from Kathmandu to Dhap, a municipality in Darchula district of Nepal situated on the banks of Mahakali River. Here you will experience the Brahmin and Chettri ethnic community. From Dhap, you will begin your trek. As you move along you’ll reach Sigane which will initiate the Himalayan view sightings such as Numbur Himal. You will follow the trail which will lead you to Japre village situated at an altitude of 2920m. This village presents beautiful Mt Everest and Numbur Himal views and a small Gompa to explore.

Day 2 Trek to Pikey Base Camp

Today, you will begin our trek to the Pikey Base Camp. You will leave Japre and follow the trail towards Bhulbhule, a village development committee in Lamjung District. Here, you will see a nameless lodge which presents clear views of Everest and surrounding mountain ranges. Leaving Bhulbhule, you will proceed towards the Pikey Peak Base Camp. On your way you will see old yak houses and Mani stone walls. You will follow the trail that passes below the Takung Danda and move through the forests. In the spring season, you will see beautiful blooms of Rhododendron flowers along the trail. Leaving the forest, for trekking around 2 hours we’ll arrive at Pikey Base Camp. From the base camp, all it takes is a short climb to reach the 4065m summit. The best time to climb the summit is in the morning to witness the glorious sunrise over the Himalayas.

Day 3 Sunrise at Pikey {eak and Trek to Loding

This is the main highlight of the whole trip as you are going to witness the pink Himalayas during the beautiful moment of sunrise. You will begin the trek early in the morning. Following the trail leading to the summit decorated with prayer flags you will get glimpses of breathtaking views along the way. In beautiful weather, the panoramic views of Annapurna, Kanchenjunga and surrounding mountains are simply astounding. After enjoying the serene sunrise from the top of Pikey Peak you will have to descend following the flat ridgeline which further steepens as you enter the forest. The forest will lead you to Jase Bhanjyang and continue towards Loding, a VDC in Solukhumbu District.

Day 4 Trek from Loading to Junbesi and Explore Thubten Choling Monastery

Descending down the topmost edge of the mountain you will arrive at Jase Bhanjyang where we’ll have our breakfast. Then we’ll proceed towards Junbesi taking a shortcut. The trail leads you through Jase and then descending steeply you will reach the primeval forest. As you cross the forest you will arrive at Taktor. From Taktor, you will follow the trail to Junbesi, an ethic Sherpa village located at an elevation of 2675m in lower Solukhumbu which takes about a few hours. Solukhumbu is a sacred valley for the Sherpa ethnicity which shares borders with Tibet. The people here follow Buddhism which is portrayed in the monasteries and Gompas along the way. This path intertwines with the Jiri-EBC trails. Tea houses in this area are more developed so you’ll meet many tourists here.

Day 5 Trek from Junbesi to Taksindu

You will begin the trek towards Taksindu, crossing the river and trekking through the forest which leads you to Salung. Salung presents picturesque views of Mt Everest, Chamlang and Makalu on good weather days. The spectacular view doesn’t end here, it spreads across the valley to Chiwong Monastery descending towards Phalpu. You will continue the trail contouring the hillside and then descending as we reach a stream. Then after climbing for a short while you will arrive in Ringmo, a famous place for apple orchards and its products such as apple alcohol, apple cider and pie. From Ringmo, a short climb and you will arrive at Taksindu La which presents amazing Himalaya’s views. Then descending down you will reach Taksindu Monastery and our lodge. You will explore the Taksindu Monastery built in 1946.

Day 6 Trek from Taksindu to Phalpu and Explore Chiwang Gompa

On this day, you will leave the regular trekking trail and follow a beautiful path to Phaplu walking down the forest. You also have an option to hike up Chiwong Gompa which is located on a cliff presenting a panoramic view of the valley. Chiwong Gompa founded in 1923 AD is famous for the Mani Rimdu festival which is celebrated in the autumn season. Further descending down to Phaplu  you will reach the end of the trekking for the day.

Day 7 Drive from Phalpu to Kathmandu Valley

This is your final day in this village. You will bid farewell to the beautiful Himalayan views, the cultures and architectures and return back to Kathmandu. As you drive back you shall enjoy the scenic views. As you arrive in Kathmandu ,you will have ample time on your hand which you can utilize by strolling around the hustling and bustling Kathmandu city.
