Gauri Shankar Trek

Gauri Shankar is 7134 m high above the sea level and the 2nd highest peak in the Rolwaling region. The mountain is named after Hindu god and goddess Shankar and Gauri (Shiva and Parvati). Which is why Mt. Gauri Shankar is regarded as the sacred mountain. With two summits, one in north and the other in south they both are called Shankar and Parvati. The northern summit (Shankar) is higher than the southern summit (Gauri). Where Shankar refers to the manifestation of Lord Shiva and Gauri refers to Goddess Parvati.  

Gauri Shankar Himal lies in the northwest of Kathmandu valley about 100 km away, west of Khumbu region and south of Tibetan plateau. The peak is above Bhote Koshi and 5 km away which is preserved by long corn ice ridges and steep faces.

This trekking offers an exceptional view of Himalayan landscapes, Gauri Shankar, Rolwaling glacier, Dorje Lakpa, Pacchermo peak, etc. And this region is outstanding and rich in biodiversity, full of rhododendron forests. Trekking to this region will let you explore the culture and lifestyle of the Sherpa community settling there. Also, this region has varieties of flora and fauna with animals like Himalayan Black Bear, Thar, Gaur, Musk deer, wild dogs and many more.

Itinerary

Day 1- Arrival to Kathmandu

With your landing in Kathmandu, you will be taken to the hotel with warm welcome. After the registration and lodging is done; the guide will take to Thamel for a short tour as it’s the center attraction/tourist hub of the city. With a variety of restaurants to choose, to grab a meal.

Day 2- Exploring Kathmandu

As a city of many religious sites, you get to explore the culturally rich sites Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa on the north side of the city. And sites including Garden of Dreams, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath Temple on the north side. Exploring some of the heritage sites and tasting some of the local foods around there.

Day 3 – Drive to Charikot, Dolkha

On the 3rd day we drive to Charikot which is in Dolakha district which is about 183 km from Kathmandu. About 7 hours of drive with beautiful scenery that we can get.

Day 4 – To Singuti

After we reach Charikot, we will start the trek to Singuti where we pass through the terraced farm and forests. Also we will cross the Tamakoshi river before reaching Singuti to stay overnight.

Day 5 – To Jagat

The 5th day, we move ahead to reach Jagat by following the river and walking in the mountain flank. Trekking on to this place offers mills of water projects and views of mountains.

Day 6 – From Jagat to Simigaon

The trek to Simigaon is difficult as we have to walk through steepy rock hills. For that we have to walk 6-7 hours, follow the route of Tamakoshi river, and the elevation of 2020 m.

Day 7 – To Doghang

Reaching Doghang is passing through Sherpa villages where we have to walk in the steep paths. The trek on this day offers a chance to explore the village, their culture, tradition and their hospitality as well.

Day 8 – To Bedding

The trek to Bedding has both uphill and downhill walks and has to cross the Doghang pass. Which is about 3993 m high above the sea level and takes about 6 – 7 hours of walk.

Day 9 – From Bedding to Na

To reach Na we have a slow walk in the ascending path for a while and then a walk in a straight path. Then after some time we Na village which is at 4180 m high above the sea level. Reaching the Na village takes 4 hours that have small houses and yak pasture.

Day 10 – Acclimatizing day

This day we take a rest and explore the Na village and lifestyle there. We can explore the Bigu Gompa, its art and creation and also do meditation.

Day 11 – To Chonbuk

Reaching Chonbuk is a straight walk for some time and then climb down the hill and spend the night there.

Day 12 – To Tashi Lapcha Phedi

The trek is very difficult as we have to climb the cliff after a walk in a straight path. We have to use rope to climb the cliff and then continue the trek in the mountain flank for that day.

Day 13 – To Theng Po

Starting the trek that ascends through Tashi Lapcha pass where we get a breathtaking panoramic view of Mt. Gauri Shankar. Along with the view of Rolwaling and then we head down to Theng Po after Tashi Phuk.

Day 14 – To Thame ( 3800 m )

To reach Thame means entering the Everest region after a descend from Theng Po and explore the Sherpa villages. Here lies the 300 years old monastery and an amazing view of Thamserku, Kusum Kangguru, etc.

Day 15 – From Thame to Namche Bazaar

 The trek for this day is to reach Namche Bazar but first we have to cross Thamo. We begin the trek with a descending walk to Thamo after a short walk in a plain trail. At Thamo, we can visit and explore Khari Gompa and then head to Namche bazar to stay overnight.

Day 16 – From Namche Bazaar to Lukla

Lukla is at the height of 2840 m from sea level and it’s the starting point for those to explore the Everest region. We head here from Namche Bazaar and then stay at a guest house for that night. This is gonna be the last day of the trek, probably a time that we will be recapping the journey.

Day 17 – Flight to Kathmandu

The day we return to Kathmandu with wonderful memories that we collect throughout the journey. Flight to Kathmandu takes 35 minutes and depending on the weather your flight can be postponed.
