Langtang Gosaikunda Trek is a beautiful experience which lets you enjoy the beautiful valley of Langtang and the holy and spiritual pond of the Gosaikunda. It is a joyful trek that comprises Langtang National Park and many other ethnic settlement villages. You can find many unique floras and the faunas preserved inside the National Park. This trek offers you the opportunity to walk along the lush forests of rhododendron and bamboo. As the journey continues you will encounter the Kyanjin Gompa, cheese factory and the Sherpa Village which is a major attraction of the Langtang. You can find the reflection of Tibetan Buddhist culture in the Gompa in Langtang. Similarly, you can taste the freshly made yak cheese in the cheese factory of the village.
Langtang Gosaikunda Trek is an amazing experience where one can explore the villages and interact with the people. It is a unique chance to experience the diverse culture, tradition and lifestyle of the people residing in those places. Trekking to Gosaikunda Lake is not just about natural exploration but a religious deed that will let you get rid of all your sins. Gosaikunda Lake is a famous site for many Hindus and Buddhist pilgrims. On the full moon night of August every year, you can find the lake full of Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims.
As per the Hindu mythology, Gosaikunda was formed when Lord Shiva endeavored to protect the universe from it. It is regarded as a study centre for Tibetan Buddhist culture. We can find Sherpa and Tamang people in the village with their well-preserved culture, tradition and lifestyle. The wooden carved windows, weaved baskets and other handicraft works, people inherit these art as their way of living. The water from the mountain formed beautiful lakes in Langtang valley namely Gosaikunda Lake, Bhairav Kunda Lake and many more.
The start of the trek begins with the 8 hours drive from Kathmandu valley to Syabrubesi. The Syabrubesi is the starting point of the trek. On the way, the trekkers can get the lovely views of the Trishuli rivers and its surrounding landscapes as well as local villages and hills. After reaching here trekkers can stay overnight and explore the Syabrubesi village. It lies on the altitude of about 1460 metres from sea level.
The trekking from this point starts with an uphill hike through the beautiful pine and rhododendron forest. There is about an hour climb through the steep hill to reach an interesting and amazing place called Bamboo. It is the place where trekkers take rest and have lunch to regenerate their body energy. The trail continues upwards through the bamboo forest to reach the final destination for today’s Lama Hotel which is the quiet famous area of this place.
The Langtang village lies at the altitude of about 3430 metres from sea level. The trails start with the rhododendron and pine forests along with the scenic paths of waterfalls and landscapes. Nature will make you feel intrigued as you enter the interesting wide valley of Langtang. This is the home to the famous Langtang National Park which is the habitat to many wild lives. The trekkers stop at the famous GhodaTabela for lunch before heading towards the Langtang village and up the Langtang Valley to Mundu.
The trek to the Kyanjin Gompa is relatively shorter than other trekking days. The trail passes through the watermills, chorten (Buddhist Shrines) and prayer wheels on the way to Kyanjin Gompa. The Kyanjin Gompa lies at the altitude of 3870 metres from the sea level. This route also acts as an acclimatization day before climbing Tserko Ri in the morning. The trekkers can explore the gompa and surrounding area and take in the mountain views in the afternoon.
The trekking approximately takes about 5- 6 hours to reach the summit of Tserko Ri. From here you can see the majestic and amazing views of Yala Peak 5520m, Langtang Ri 7205m, Langtang Lirung 7227m and Naya Khang 5844m. Here you can enjoy your packed lunch while enjoying the majestic views of the mountains and landscapes. After this, trekkers descend back to the Kyanjin Gompa where they will again spend the night.
It is the rest day for the travellers. You can visit the monastery and the cheese factory, walk up the moraine to see spectacular ice faces and ascend at Chorkar Ri at 5050 meters which is the highest point of this trek. This lies directly behind the village which offers the breathtaking views of the Langtang peak.
The trail is relatively long but straight forward so the trekkers can walk at their own pace. They gradually descend back to Lama Hotel through the rhododendron and pine forests and interesting villages. They can see the amazing view where mountains continue to dominate the sky of the Langtang valley.
The trekkers have to first descend to the river, cross the river and ascend to Thulo Syabru. Through this path you will see the fascinating view of Langtang Himal , pine and juniper forests.
Shin Gompa is another popular place for cheese in the Langtang Valley. The route is the broad trail towards the Dimsa Village and continues less steeply, through rhododendron, hemlock and oak forests to Shin Gompa. On the way of your trek you will see fantastic views of Langtang Himal and Langtang Valley.
This is the main highlight of the trip. The first part of the trail emerges and trekkers have to climb steadily up to Laurebinayak and the top of the Laurebina Yak gives you an exotic feeling. With a steep ascent all the way to Gosaikunda. You follow a rugged trail with dramatic views to the Manaslu range, Ganesh Himal range, Tibetan peaks and Langtang Lirung. On a clear day, even the Annapurna range can be seen rising up behind and to the north also across the valley is Langtang Lirung.
You pass a few huts in the high pasture of Laurebina Yak, cross a small ridge and have your first views of the holy lake of Gosaikunda. There are about a dozen lakes in the Gosainkunda Basin the main three being Saraswatikunda, Bhairab Kunda and Gosainkunda. According to legend Gosainkunda was created by Shiva when he pierced a glacier with his trident to obtain water to quench his thirst after having swallowed a poison that threatened to destroy the world.
The trail leaves Gosaikunda and climbs through rugged country, past four small lakes to the Laurebinayak La at 4610 meters, the highest point of this trek. You can indulge yourself at the spectacular views of Manaslu and the mountains of Ganesh Himal as well as Langtang Lirung. You then descend steeply to camp near Ghopte.
The trekkers have to slide down through a forested area and climb through a dry river bed to arrive at a Kharka which is surrounded by rhododendron forest. You have to climb through the forest to arrive at the village of Tharepati. Climbing the ridge directly above the village gives you a marvelous view of the Jugal area. Cross the village and enter a forested area, again descending to Melamchi River followed by yet again climbing to the Malemchi Gaon.
Through this route you will encounter a cultural destination called Helambu region. From here you have to walk up to Tarke Gyang where you can enjoy the Sherpa culture with traditional villages and monasteries. The stone houses are close together with narrow alleyways separating them.
This route will take you through the small forest with the view of the beautiful village of Helambu region. The trail makes a sweep around the wide valley end between Parachin and the pretty Sherpa village of Gangyul. The people of this village practice Drukpa Kagyu Buddhism, the same as the national religion of Bhutan.
This is the final day of the trekking and walk in the Gosaikunda Helambu Region. The trekkers will hike to Melamchi Bazaar. The trail passed many villages with their traditional cultures. You also have to walk through terraced fields. Once you reach the Market area you will enjoy the local delicacies and drive back to the Kathmandu valley. You can enjoy the cool breeze through the window with the amazing views of the landscapes, river, fields and valleys.
