Kwangde Ri Peak also called Kongde Ri is located in the southeast of Namche Bazar. In the Everest Region standing 6011 m high. It is just above the Bhotekoshi river and has multi- summited ridge bordering with Rolwaling Himal. Kwangde peak lies in the hidden and remote valley of Lumding Drangka at the northern side.
Throughout the peak climb we get to explore the local community which is Sherpa community especially. We get to explore their culture, traditions, rituals, beliefs, hospitality and many more. With many monasteries, monks, we can also do meditation to add an extra relaxing factor in our journey.And till we get to the base camp we can have a close encounter of wilderness and mother nature. Rare wildlife including Danphe, Red Panda and Snow leopard have their habitat in this region.
As in the Everest region that we will be, from there we can see the view of some mountains like Mt. Everest, Mt. Cho Oyu, Mt. Ama Dablam, and others. Trek to Kwangde peak lets us explore the hidden area of Everest region with magnificent views of the mountain ranges. We can get an exceptional scenery of glaciers of Khartang, Numbur and Karyolung. .
The best time to climb Mt. Kwangde Ri is during Spring and Autumn.
The trip grade is arduous requiring climbers with high stamina and the route is amazing but sometimes often late due to yak traffic.
With your landing in Kathmandu, you will be taken to the hotel with warm welcome. After the registration and lodging is done; the guide will take to Thamel for a short tour as it’s the center attraction/tourist hub of the city. With a variety of restaurants to choose to grab a meal.
As a city of many religious sites, you get to explore the culturally rich sites Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa on the north side of the city. And sites including Garden of Dreams, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath Temple on the north side. Exploring some of the heritage sites and tasting some of the local foods around there.
This morning after having breakfast we fly to Lukla. Taking 30 – 35 minutes to reach the airport at the height of 2800 m high. Lukla airport lies on the 2 spot for the world’s most dangerous airport list. After reaching Lukla, we follow Dudh Koshi River and pass through forests to reach Phakding. There exists a Gompa to where we need to climb and see the views of snowcapped mountains.
Before we reach Namche Bazaar we have to cross through multiple places that offer a lot of things. This day also, we follow Dudh Koshi river until we reach Zamphuti that offers an amazing view of Thamserku peak. Then we head towards the place with an amazing insight of farming lifestyle, a place of agricultural projects – Chomoa. Then we reach the territory of Sagarmatha National Park after the climb to Monjo. And finally we reach Namche Bazaar after we come through Jorsale and stay overnight 3438 m high. From where we can observe the view of Mt. Everest and Mt. Nuptse.
This day we take rest and acclimatize to the environment. Having breakfast, we can explore Sherpa history and culture by visiting a Sherpa museum. Also after a short hike we can reach the top place in Namche Bazaar for sightseeing. Mountains like Mt. Everest, Mt. Ama Dablam, Mt. Lhotse, Island peak can be seen if the weather is clear.
After having our breakfast, reaching Thame takes about 5 hours of walk where we aim to reach 3950 m high. Where we can visit and explore Thame Old monastery. On the way to Thame we go through lush forests of pine, oak and blooming rhododendron and many local villages of Sherpa. This day we can have a marvelous view of Rolwaling Himal and Kwangde peak.
The base camp lies at 4700 m high above the sea level which takes about 6 – 7 hours to reach. We move along a tiny trail, the difficulty level rises during winter. Like the previous days, this day also we pass through lush forests of pine and rhododendron. Also a magnificent view of Mt. Everest’s east part.
The climb to high camp will take about 4 hours and it’s a short climb but quite challenging with its tough route. Due to the tough route the climb to high camp can be tiring. And reaching the high camp which lies 5200 m high, get some rest and start training for the summit climb.
It’s the climb day to summit, we aim for the height of 6011 m, the most challenging and tough day throughout the journey. This day it’s gonna take much more time than any other day. We climb the summit, observe the breathtaking view from up there and climb down to base camp for overnight camp. This whole climb- up and down will take about 10 hours which is exhausting until we reach the summit. Because once we reach the summit, the spectacular view from there will make our exhaustion fade away and fill with joy.
After the climb, we climb down and aim to reach Namche Bazaar (3440 m) through Sagarmatha National Park. Returning back is through the same lush forest, wonderful route. Reaching Namche Bazaar, we take some rest and explore some of the left unexplored places if possible. Then stay overnight at lodge there.
After an overnight stay at lodge in Namche, we then will have some breakfast and trek down to 2800 m, Lukla. This trek’s gonna take 6 – 7 hours where we reach after crossing Phakding again and staying at lodge.
After having some breakfast in the morning and a little bit of packing, we return back to Kathmandu. With awesome flight view of snowcapped mountains and beautiful landscapes and a day in Kathmandu to stay.
