HRDC is the non-profitable and the largest paediatric orthopaedic hospital and rehabilitation centre in Nepal. It was established  in the year 1997 in the city of Banepa in Kavre district. The hospital is known for the treatment of the underprivileged children with the physical disabilities. The team of the HRDC is led by the Prof. Dr. Ashok K Banskota who is the Founding ChairPerson of the hospital.  The hospital has been running a medical and social rehabilitation program in which the hospital tries to fulfil the  medical, therapeutic and as well as social needs of the children.

HISTORY

At first the hospital started as a small program in 1985 providing services to the disabled poor. In 1985 Dr. Banskota started a small hospital in Jorpati with the help from the Terre des hommes(Tdh), a Swiss non-profit organization. With the help of the American Himalayan Foundation in 1988 HRDC further expanded its services. During 1992 the ownership was transferred to Friends of the Disabled(FOD), a Nepalese non -governmental organization. HRDC was able to extend its services and relocate the current comprehensive facility in Banepa in 1997 with the support and additional funds from donors such as Luxembourg government and  scouts.

The medical team of the hospital consists of the 13 orthopaedic surgeons, 2 anaesthetic consultants, 4 anaesthetic nurses, 1 plastic surgeon, 2 house surgeons and 30 other members of different departments. The hospital has a total 230 staff. The hospital is equipped with the 100 beds, including 3 bed high dependency ward  and 5 operating rooms. About 2300-2500 surgeries are performed each year and about 96000 children have been treated in hospital so far. HRDC also runs satellite clinics in Itahari, Lahan, Nepalgunj, Baglung, Chitwan and Butwol. HRDC has also been treating the children from other countries such as India, Bhutan, Pakistan, Mongolia, Tibet . It has been treating the children under 18 with the problems of club foot, burns and tuberculosis of spine for about 3 decades. HRDC has also received a huge amount of awards . The hospital has received 27 awards including 3 International awards , namely
