Gokyo lake is one of the highest and largest freshwater reservoirs and sacred for both Hindus and Budhhists. It fascinates as it’s a miraculous glacier lake.

It is located in Sagarmatha National Park at an altitude of 4700-5000 mtrs.

It’s an alternative to traditional Everest Base Camp trek. It is a glacial lake and has fresh turquoise watercolor with 6 water bodies. It has breathtaking views with high mountains of Everest region. And by being within the area of the national park it’s an awesome trip.

Culture:

People there follow Sherpa culture and have monasteries there. Local people there are friendly and provide good hospitality.

Climate:

Obviously, the climate there is extreme cold. The existing Tundra climate ( very low temperature even in the warmest month).

The average temperature is -0.5 °c .

• Lukla Airport (World’s 2nd most dangerous airport)

Trail:

• The trek is around 16 – 18 days.
• The trip starts from Kathmandu.
• A flight to be taken to Lukla airport.
• Then the trek starts from there.
• From airport to Namche bazar.
• From Namche bazar is to be headed towards Khumjung.
• And to Dole where after we reach Machhermo.
• Lastly we head towards our final destination, Gokyo lake.
• Gokyo Ri has got some excellent viewpoints i.e. above Gokyo ( Early morning hike).

Preferable time:

• Autumn and Spring season where it’s a peak time.

Difficult??

• Got tough terrains.
• Unlike other trek routes like Annapurna or others, it’s not difficult but slippery occasionally.
