Dorje Lakpa Expedition

Dorje Lakpa Expedition is an amazing trip in the Langtang Valley with the thrilling adventure of climbing the Dorje Lakpa Peak. Mt. Dorje Lakpa is located at the solid mass of Jugal Himal in Nepal, east side of Langtang Valley and south of Mt. Shishapangma and Tibet border. The normal route for the Dorje Lakpa peak is described as a good technique in ice. Dorje Lakpa Expedition lies in the Langtang region of Nepal. It is one of the most popular Expedition mountains within the Langtang region. The first recorded ascent of Mount Dorje Lakpa was made by a Japanese Expedition in the late 1960s. Aside from the testing and exciting background of Mt Dorje Lakpa Expedition. An open door for investigating the rich characteristic marvels of the less beaten area of Langtang valley. Furthermore, it gives a mind-boggling knowledge to energetic and submitted trekkers.  

Dorje Lakpa Expedition

Another attempt was made by a 7-members-team Italian expedition ADC89 during fall of 1989, again from the west ridge and approach from south. The climb was stopped after Camp 1 at approx 6100m due to unstable snow and avalanche danger on the ridge.  One needs to be physically and mentally sound and good with proper endurance ability in order to keep going in the expedition. It offers several climbing routes from Kyanjin Gompa Valley. Acclimatization is very crucial at higher altitudes to ensure the successful summit climb and to avoid mental and physical sickness. Dorje Lakpa Expedition offers you an exclusive picture of Himalayan Pheasants, Himalayan Deers, Himalayan bears, monkeys and the elusive red panda. 

The Dorje Lakpa Expedition tour offers you the opportunity to walk along the lush forests of rhododendron and bamboo.  As the journey continues you will encounter the Kyanjin Gompa, cheese factory and the Sherpa Village which is a major attraction of the Langtang.  You can find the reflection of Tibetan Buddhist culture in the Gompa in Langtang. Similarly, you can taste the freshly made yak cheese in the cheese factory of the village.

Day 1 Drive from Kathmandu valley to Dhunche

The journey starts from Kathmandu with a beautiful ride through the zig- zag hilly roads. During the whole drive you can enjoy the stunning views of Manaslu, Ganesh Himal and Langtang Himalayan Ranges. After 7 to 8 hours of driving you will reach your destination of trekking.

Day 2 Dhunche to Thulo Syabru

From Dhunche you will start your trek over a dusty motor road towards Syabrubesi. You will reach a small village of Thulo Bharkhu which indicates the start of the trekking trail. The trail then gently climbs through oak and pine filled forest towards Barbal. You will continue your trek on an easy undulating trek that goes along the forest and with glimpses of Ganesh Himal and the beautiful Langtang valley. After a while, you will reach the ridge top of Thulo Syabru Village. The village is inhabited by the Tamang ethnic community.

 Day 3 Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel

The trekking from this point starts with an uphill hike through the beautiful pine and rhododendron forest.  There is about an hour climb through the steep hill to reach an interesting and amazing place called Bamboo.  It is the place where trekkers take rest and have lunch to regenerate their body energy. The trail continues upwards through the bamboo forest to reach the final destination for today’s Lama Hotel which is the quiet famous area of this place.

Day 4 Lama Hotel to Mundu via Langtang Village

The Langtang village lies at the altitude of about 3430 metres from sea level. The trails start with the rhododendron and pine forests along with the scenic paths of waterfalls and landscapes. Nature will make you feel intrigued as you enter the interesting wide valley of Langtang. This is the home to the famous Langtang National Park which is the habitat to many wild lives. The trekkers stop at the famous GhodaTabela for lunch before heading towards the Langtang village and up the Langtang Valley to Mundu.

Day 5 Mundu to Kyanjin Gompa

The trek to the Kyanjin Gompa is relatively shorter than other trekking days. The trail passes through the watermills, chorten (Buddhist Shrines) and prayer wheels on the way to Kyanjin Gompa. The Kyanjin Gompa lies at the altitude of 3870 metres from the sea level. This route also acts as an acclimatization day before climbing Tserko Ri in the morning. The trekkers can explore the gompa and surrounding area and take in the mountain views in the afternoon.

Day 6 Kyanjin Gompa to Tserko Ri and Back to Kyanjin Gompa

The trekking approximately takes about 5- 6 hours to reach the summit of Tserko Ri. From here you can see the majestic and amazing views of Yala Peak 5520m, Langtang Ri 7205m, Langtang Lirung 7227m and Naya Khang 5844m. Here you can enjoy your packed lunch while enjoying the majestic views of the mountains and landscapes. After this, trekkers descend back to the Kyanjin Gompa where they will again spend the night.  

Day 7 Kyanjin Gompa to Yak Kharka

After spending a full day resting at Kyanjin Gompa, the trail descends steeply for about twenty minutes to cross a suspension bridge over Langtang river. After crossing the bridge you will follow the trail that ascends gradually into alpine vegetation. The uphill trekking continues with juniper shrubs on both sides of the trail with great views of the glacier and Langtang Lirung. Soon, you will arrive at Yak Kharka.

Day 8 Yak Kharka to Dorje Lakpa Base camp

After having breakfast, you will get your things together and then follow the trail that climbs steeply into higher altitudes. As you gain altitude you might get very tired, feel dizzy or get exhausted, so it’s better to rest every now and then which helps in restoring energy. After a few hours of tiring climb, you will arrive at a good campsite at 4,950 meters where you will set up your Base Camp. The Sherpa crew will quickly set up the camps and make necessary preparations for further climbing of Mt Dorje Lakpa.

Day 8 to 27 Climbing Dorje Lakpa and Back to Base Camp

You will spend several days making climb preparations with adequate climbing training and proper acclimatization. Fully acclimatized and properly equipped with all the climbing gears, you will follow the guidance and instructions given by  experienced climbing experts and head towards the summit. You will tackle several technical sections and climb towards the summit of Mt Dorje Lakpa. Once at the top you are rewarded with breathtaking views of Langtang Himal Ranges including Langtang Lirung, Pemthang Karpo, Gangchenpo and Shishapangma that rises across the border of Tibet. You will spend some quality time at the summit before descending down following the same route and head back to base camp.

Day 28 Dorje Lakpa Base camp to Yak Kharka

You will begin your return journey by retracing steps and following the same trail that heads back to Yak Kharka. A rather easy downhill trekking will lead you back to Yak Kharka.

Day 29 Yak Kharka to Langtang village

From Yak Kharka you will continue to retrace your steps by following the same route that descends down to cross a suspension bridge over Langtang river. After crossing the bridge the trail climbs for a while to reach Kyangjin Gompa. From Kyangjin Gompa, a rather easy and pleasant trek will lead you back to Langtang village.

Day 30 Langtang Village to Lama Hotel

After having breakfast at Langtang village, you will pack your gears and continue to retrace your steps on the main trail that heads back to Ghodatabela. From there, the trail is a rather easy downhill trekking through dense forest areas until you arrive at Lama Hotel.

Day 31 Lama Hotel to Syabrubesi

Syabrubesi will provide you with the opportunity to take the final photographs and memories from the Langtang region. The trekkers can enjoy this moment and appreciate their last day by enjoying the different Himalayan cuisines and drinks.  They will stay overnight here and prepare for the departure to the Kathmandu valley. 

Day 32 Syabrubesi to Kathmandu

This is the last day of the trek in Langtang Valley. The trekkers will bid farewell to the Langtang mountains and drive back to Kathmandu bringing wonderful memories and photographs with you.
