Changu Narayan is an ancient temple located at a high hill. This hill is known as Changu or Dolagiri. The temple was surrounded by champak tree forest and alittle village referred to as Changu. The temple is found in Changunarayan Municipality of Bhaktapur District, Nepal. This hill is about 7 miles or 12 km east of Kathmandu and a couple of miles north of Bhaktapur. The Manohara River flows beside Capitol Hill . This shrine is devoted to lord Visnu and held in special reverence by the Hindu people. This temple is taken into account to be the oldest temple within the history of Nepal. A Bhaktapur prince married kashmiri princess and also this Temple is known after her.
There is an information desk before the entrance to Changu Village. They issue tickets to foriegn people. The view from Chnagu Narayan is majestic. Around 200 foreigners visit Changu.
Changu Museum
There is also a privatly maintained musen in Changu. It is the first private muse of Nepal.We can have a look of some old collection of coins, tools, arts, and architecture. Also lots of historical and ancient objects are preserved here. Newar tools and cultural stuffs are also secured there. Fee for Nepali is Rs 100 and Rs 300 for foreigners.
Way to Changu
Changu is a part of Bhaktapur city. It is around 11km away from Koteshwor. Public vehicle are operated there. Also lots of tourist bus are also running there. People can also take cab or rent a vehicle.
