Buddha Jayanti is the birthday of the Lord Gautam Buddha known as the Light of the Asia. It is the main festival of the Buddhist in the most of the East Asian countries. It is the buddhist festival celebrating the birth of the Prince Siddhartha Gautam, who was later known as the Lord Gautam Buddha founder of the buddhism. According to the history and modern academic Gautam Buddha was born between the 563-480 B.C. in Lumbini. He was born in the Shakya family from the King Suddhodana and Queen Mayadevi.

The exact date of  Buddha’s birthday is unknown because it is based on the Asian Lunisolar calendars. The date of the Buddha Jayanti varies from year to year but it usually falls in the month of April or May. During leap year the Buddha Jayanti can fall in the month of June. Buddha Jayanti began to be celebrated after the Prince Siddhartha Gautam became Gautam Buddha by gaining the knowledge and inner peace in the Gaya of India.

Buddha Jayanti falls on the full moon day of the Baisakha month of the Buddhist calendar. They celebrate the birthday of the Lord Buddha by visiting the stupas and monasteries around the country. The monks enchant the special mantras and mediate in front of the Lord buddha statue on this day. The buddhist offer praying and devotions to the Lord Gautam Buddha. They also offer the food and clothes to the monks. They cook delicious dinners and arrange gatherings with the relatives and family members. The most crowded place during this day is Mayadevi temple of Lumbini. The large numbers of monks gather around this temple and offer their praying to the Lord Buddha. People also pray on this day to make them free from any kind of jealousies, selfishness and  feeling of hatred from their heart.
