The hotel was built by the longest ruling Rana prime minister of Nepal Maharaja Chandra Shumsher Rana and his son Baber Shumsher during the Rana regime. The property was the palace and the holiday spot of the prime minister Maharaja Chandra Shumsher Nepal. The palace was handed over to the government of Nepal after the end of the Rana regime in 1953. The hotel was officially opened in the year 2016 in the month of November.

The hotel portrays the distinct architectural features during the Rana regime of Nepal. It is the blend of the four architectural designs of Nepal. The main and primary design of the hotel is ‘Rana  Durbar’ style followed by the taste of Newari, Mustang and Terai designs.
