Annapurna Khayar Lake Trek

Annapurna Khayar Lake trek is a newly developed trekking destination of Annapurna region gradually seeking the attention of the trekkers from each corner of the world. Khayar Lake trek offers you with the breathtaking panoramic views of the sparkling White Mountains along with the cultural mix of Gurung and Magar communities. You will experience the world class hospitality and delicacies of Gurung and Magar people on your trek to Khayar Lake. The Khayar Lake is situated at an elevation of 4500meters above the sea level in between Annapurna Base Camp and Jomsom trekking trail. This trek takes you to the wilderness of Annapurna region where you can explore the alluring natural beauties, walk through isolated trails, dense forests, Gurung and Magar settlements, and encounter the rich flora and fauna of the Annapurna region. 

Annapurna Khayar Lake Trek

Khayar Lake is a sacred lake for Hindu and Buddhist religion which holds a traditional myth. People believe that if they pray during the month of July-August their wish will be fulfilled. The newly married women also believe that if they pray during the sacred-thread replacement then they will be granted with fertility. This is celebrated as one of the most important festivals of Khayar Lake.

Khayar Lake also has another major festival during the month of March-April. In this festival all people gather together and slay their yaks. They drink the blood of the yaks and it is believed that any kind of illness is cured by drinking the fresh yak blood.  The Annapurna Khayar Lake trek is one of the must do treks in the Annapurna region which fascinates you with lots of fun and adventures. Day 1 Cultural Tour in Kathmandu

You will have a sightseeing tour around Kathmandu valley which takes in the key attractions in and around Kathmandu. Including AM: Visit 2000 years old Buddhist shrine Swayambhunath, situated on the top of the hill west of the city the most popular and instantly recognizable symbols of Nepal. The temple is colloquially known as the “Monkey Temple”. There are many small buildings and shrines down the hillside behind Swayambhunath. 

Explore the colorful Kathmandu Durbar Square – The Old Royal Palace of Kathmandu, Temple of living goddess Kumari, the Jagannath temple, and 17th century temple known for colorfully painted erotic carvings, Kasthmandap temple a three story temple built from a single tree in 12th century. Visit Pashupatinath temple, one of the most sacred Hindu shrines in the World. The holy river Bagmati and the burning Ghats and also visit one of the oldest and biggest stupa of Boudhanath.     

Day 2 Drive to Pokhara 

The journey starts from the Kathmandu valley from where the bus ride of about 5 to 6 hours will take you to the beautiful city of Pokhara. Through this ride travellers can enjoy the scenic views of beautiful river valleys, alongside terraced fields of barley and rice and over green hills blanketed with lush vegetation. When you arrive at the Pokhara valley there you will witness the beautiful lakes, hills and mountain ranges. The travellers will enjoy the evening here and stay here for a night.  

Day 3 Drive to Nayapul and Trek to Ulleri

This day you will begin your drive to Nayapul which is approximately 40 k.m. from Pokhara. The drive will take around 1 hour 30 min after which you will begin your trek. The first part of the trail takes us to Birethati where you will check in your ACAP permit and TIMS. You will then cross the river at Birethati and head left along the gentle slope to Tikhedhunga. From here you will again cross the BhurungdiKhola River on two suspension bridges. After crossing the river you will start the steep climb to Ulleri where you will be spending the night. 

Day 4 Trek to Ghorepani

From Tikhedhunga the trail crosses a stream on a suspension bridge near the campsite at Tikhedhunga. The trail ascends a steep stone staircase (which has about 3300 steps) to the large Magar village of Ulleri at 2080m. Above the village, the trail climbs gently through pastures and cultivated fields. The trail crosses two beautiful and clear streams before making a short and final climb to the Nangethanti. Thanthi is the Nepali word meaning ”rest house”. During the winter season you can experience the trail covered with the white and soft snow. From Nangethanti you will continue your climb towards the Ghorepani at 2850 metres. From here you can indulge yourself in the spectacular panoramic views of Dhaulagiri I, Nilgiri, Annapurna I, Himchuli and more.

Day 5 Trek to Kobra Danda 

After Having breakfast at Ghorepani, you will start your trek today. Your today destination is Kobra Danda. To reach Kobra Danda you will have 5 to 6 hours to walk through beautiful landscapes and narrow valleys.

Day 6 Trek to Khayar base camp 

The trial today is comparatively difficult. After having your breakfast at Kobra Danda you will start your trek to Khayar base camp. You will walk through steep trials with few ups and downs. It will take about 4-5 hour to reach Khayar Base Camp. 

Day 7 Visit Khayar Lake/Explore around the Khayar Base Camp.

Today you will visit the Khayar Lake which is about 6km from the base camp. You will wake up with the mesmerizing sunrise view to the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains which looks extremely amazing. After having breakfast you will trek to the Khayar Lake. From the lake you will see the eye-catching view of the Annapurna south summit along with other majestic mountains. After that you will trek back to the Khayar Base Camp and explore around. 

Day 8 Trek from the base camp to Kobra Danda.

You will trek back to Kobra Danda today. It will take almost 4-5 hours to reach Kobra Danda. You will trek back through the same route you used while trekking Khayar Base Camp.

Day 9 Kobra Danda to Chistibung 

After having breakfast at Kobra Danda you will trek to Chistibung. Overnight at Chistbung. 

Day 10 Trek to Dobato 

From Chistbung you will trek to Dobato. Overnight at Dobato.

Day 11  Dobato to Tadapani 

You will have your breakfast at Donbato then head towards Tadapani.

Day 12 Tadapani to Ghandruk village 

Today you will trek for 3 hours all the way from Tadapani (2675m.) to Ghandruk (1950m.). You will have your breakfast in Tadapani and will trek towards Ghandruk. Ghandruk is a Gurung village where you can see houses made up of stones. There you will know about Gurung cultures and traditions. You can find various accommodation facilities in this village. It also offers you spectacular views of Annapurna mountain range. Overnight at Ghandruk.

Day 13 Ghandruk to Nayapul and drive to Pokhara.

After having your breakfast in Ghandruk you will leave. You will slowly start your trial back to Nayapul. It’s about 5 hours of walk. After reaching Nayapul you will stop for lunch and then you will drive back to Pokhara. You will do boating in Pokhara which will somehow help to get rid of tiredness.

Day 14 Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu

It is time to bid farewell to the Pokhara valley and take a bus ride back to the Kathmandu valley. You can enjoy the beautiful landscapes, river valleys and clear sky through the window of the bus before reaching the city.
