Manakamana Temple is located in the Gorkha district. One of the most sacred place for Hindu people. It is temple of Goddess Bhagwati who is the incarnation of Parvati. The ropeway can be seen at the side of the Prithvi higway from Kurintar.

The Manakamana temple is around140km far from the capital city kathmadnu and 12 km from Gorkha town. Beautiful manaslu and annapurna range can be seen from the temple.

The history and site of the Manakamana temple are explained by a curious legend. The Queen of the 17th century Gorkha King, Rama Shah, was said to possess magical powers that only her devotee, Lakhan Thapa, knew about. within the future”> at some point the Queen’s husband became conscious of her secret when he saw her within the sort of a goddess and Lakhan Thapa in the sort of a Lion. Soon thereafter the King mysteriously died and therefore the Queen, as was the custom of the day, committed sati (ritual immolation) upon her husband’s pyre before her death, the Queen had promised her devotee Lakhan Thapa that he would soon again see her. a while later while plowing a field, a farmer discovered a stone from which blood and milk were pouring. When Lakhan Thapa learned of this he was convinced it had been a symbol from the dead queen, and at the location where the stone had been discovered he constructed a temple in her honor. this 19th century temple may be a replacement of the one built by Lakhan Thapa.

How to get there

The temple can be reached by the cable car which operates from the kurintar. Kurintar lies on the Prithvi higway which also take people to pokhara and chitwan. Public vehicle can be found easily.
