Tihar is a five day long Hindu festival celebrated in Nepal. It is known as the festival of lights. People put diyas lights inside and outside their houses to at night. The festival begins with Kaag Tihar in and ends with Bhai Tika every year. Tihar is second most popular Nepalese festival after Dashain. People make rangoli on the floor of living rooms or courtyards . This is meant to be drawn so to welcome the godess of wealth Maha Laxmi.

Day 1: Kag Tihar

Crows are worshiped in the begining of the tihar festival . People offer sweets and dishes to crow on the roofs of thier houses. The crows carawing sound is taken as bad sign in Hindu so they worship the crow to make them happy. The Tihar festivals shows the attachment between humans and animals.

Day 2: Kukur Tihar

The second day of tihar is called Dog Tihar. People put garlands, tika to thier dogs. They also offers delicious food to dogs to cheris the relationship between humans and dogs.

Day 3 : Gai Tihar and Laxmi Puja

The third day of tihar is Gai tihar also Laxmi puja. Garlands of marigolds are prepared and used to decorate the house. Even the offices and shops are also decorated as they all the source of income and every hindu takes it as Laxmi source.

The cow are worshipped by puting then tika and garlands of marigold. They are offered their delicious foods. In the evening Laxmi puja is done to thank the goddess of wealth. After the laxmi puja the girl enjoy the night by visiting the houses by singing and dancing also known as bhailini.

Day 4 : Govardhan Puja

The fourth day of tihar, Mainly ox is worshipped in this day by giving foods and puting garlands. It is taken as the gobar as the mountian in Hindu religon. So they worship the dung of the ox as gobardhan puja in this day.

Day 5 : Bhai Tika Worship of Brother

The fifth is the last day of Tihar is called Bhai Tika or Kija Puja. In this day of thiar the brothers are worshipped by their sisters. It is known that sisters save their brothers from the god of death by this puja. Sisters worship thier brothers and brothers give them blessings and gifts. They also enjoys the day by dancing and singing having delicious foods.
