Mustang Nepal: Himalayan beauty

Located in the northwest of Nepal at an altitude of 3,840 feet, Mustang is one of the several environmentally untouched areas in Nepal. You can see the Annapurna Ranges and Nilgiri Himal extending through the northern portion. It is split into two parts: Upper Mustang and Lower Mustang.

Upper Mustang Nepal is renowned for adventurous trekking, while lower Mustang is famed for its stunning natural scenery. In the trans-Himalayan region, Upper Mustang is cooler and semi-arid.

NATURAL BEAUTY

Mustang is situated in the northernmost part of the nation and is abundant with natural foliage. You’ll be able to see a tiny part of the tropical alpine and coniferous trees in Mustang. Spectacular apple fields and rhododendron woods make this area more spectacular. Likewise, you can see hillsides fully lined with beautiful red and pink rhododendrons. Mustang is popular for action sports such as running, mountain climbing, trekking, horse racing and horse riding. Since this location sits in the northern part of the country, it has some of the tallest mountains in the world. You can see panoramic views of Mt. Annapurna (8,091 m) and other hills, Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167 m) and Nilgiri Himal (7061 m).

CULTURE

In the lowlands, you can mainly see Gurungs and Manangis in the east, although there are more Tibetans in the north, and Thakalis in Jomsom. All these groups have their own ancient customs, beliefs and behaviors that render this whole area exceptionally rich in culture. Any aspect of this area will impress you with its own activities that you might not have seen before, and that makes Mustang more adventurous.

SNOWFALL

Mustang Nepal is situate at a high altitude surrounded by snow-cap mountains all around it, rendering the conditions ideal for snowfall. In the winter season, you can see the area coated with dense blankets of snow.

FOOD & FESTIVALS IN MUSTANG

Thakali, one of the most popular food in the world, originated in Mustang. You will find a few Thakali Bhansa (restaurants) all over the world, but this area will offer you its authentic edition. Besides this, Mustang is also for its tasty apples and products such as brandy, wine and dry goods. The Tiji Festival is one of the most popular festivals in Mustang. It is the largest celebration among Tibetan Buddhists. People live here have their own style of life and activities that may appear to be very strange and shocking to outsiders.

MUKTINATH TEMPLE

Muktinath Temple is one of the most important pilgrimage locations for Hindus and Buddhists. The road goes through several archeological sites and temples. 108 water taps and a constant flickering fire are the key features of this temple.

The perfect time to visit Mustang is between March because June, and the conditions here can be rough over the next few months.
