Mt Lhotse is the fourth highest peak in the world with some of the popular and the highest mountain ranges. It is 8516 m high above sea level. Mt. Lhotse is also known as ‘South Peak’ that’s because it lies on the southern side. It’s somewhere around 3 km away to South from Mt. Everest. Having three summits which are Lhotse main (8413 m), Lhotse Shar (8383 m) and Lhotse East (8413 m) is in the list of the steepest faces around the world with 3.2 km rise in just 2.25 km distance.

During the year 1984, Mt. Lhotse was climbed successfully with numerous unsuccessful attempts. The journey includes a climb of 1125 m high blue glacial wall with two rocky section( i.e. Yellow Band and the Geneva Spur), interrupting the upper part. There exists a harsh climate with high altitudes and abrupt exhaustion. Many obstacles may arise during the expedition and is regarded as one of the dangerous expeditions because of its steep faces.

Mt.Lhotse is a part of Mt. Everest, covered with the forest of birch, juniper, firs, pine, bamboo and rhododendron with no mosses and lichens as the altitude rises from 5750 m, no plant survives.

Wild animals including Snow Leopard, Himalayan Black Bear, Musk Deer, Wild Yak are found as they can survive in that climate. Some animals like pigs, goats are used for farming.

About the Trip

The whole trip takes around 48-50 days. After exploring some places in Kathmandu the trip starts with a fly to Lukla Airport. Then to Namche bazar, reaching on the 5th day. Now, depending upon the condition of a traveler acclimatization is done. After reaching Dingboche through Thyangboche some days are there for acclimatization. And somewhere around 14th day to 40th day, the climb to Lhotse is done returning to base camp. The return trip is up to Lukla in the Everest region then finally back to Kathmandu.

Mt.Lhotse offer various challenges arise during the climb like altitude sickness, temperature factors and mostly huge snowfall. But I think that’s what makes your trip full of thrilling moments and things to lock in your memory. What say?
