Nagarkot is a most popular Tourist destination 32 km north-east from the capital city, Kathmandu. It is situated at the altitude of 7, 200 feet. It is known specifically for its dawn time, for a beautiful view of sunrise over the Eastern Himalayas. The best time to visit there would be between October and March. Monsoon clouds obstruct wonderful views between June and September. There is very enough hotels, resturent ,resort village, where people come to escape the sweltering heat of the city and stay overnight. Very few visitors stay longer.

This article, using field-notes, briefly describes the status of tourism at Nagarkot. The study takes the case of major aspects of tourism industry – accommodations, restaurants, tourists and outlets – to examine the impact of tourism in the local economy.

Getting there

You have several options if you decide to visit there by road.

Hiring a taxi for a one-way trip to the village will cost around NPR2,000-3,000 and nearly double that for a return trip with a short time to admire the views. Leaving Nagarkot on foot is a recommended option as it’s downhill (see trekking options below).

Tourist minibuses will cost NPR300-400, leaving from the Hotel Malla in Lainchhaur and taking about two hours to reach there.

Public buses run to Nagarkot via Bhaktapur and will cost less than NPR100 for the two-hour trip.

By Trekking

If you have a free time, trekking is a good way . The village is on the Kathmandu Valley Cultural Trekking Trail. The trail starts in Sundarijal, a short bus or taxi ride from Kathmandu, and continues on to Chisapani (2,150 m), 5.5h and then to Nagarkot (2,163 m), 5-7.5 h.

From Nagarkot, you can continue on the Kathmandu Valley Cultural Trekking Trail to Dhulikhel in about 6 h. As you leave from there, the trail climbs up to the tower of Nagarkot. From the tower there are excellent views of mountains including views of Mt Everest and Kathmandu Valley.
